Benny is the Chief Executive Officer of Tanoto Foundation. The Tanoto Foundation believes in harnessing the transformative power of education to realise people's full potential and to improve lives. Operating in Singapore, Indonesia, China and Brazil, the Foundation focuses on impact-driven programmes in early childhood education and development, basic education, development of future leaders, and medical research. As CEO, Benny oversees the strategy development and implementation of the Foundation's global philanthropic activities, as well as fosters collaborations to amplify the impact of the Foundation.

Benny previously served 20 years in the Singapore Administrative Service. This included seven years as Principal Private Secretary to Singapore's President. Benny started his career as an educator and spent more than a decade in the sector, including several years as an education policy maker and subsequently as a school leader.
